learning institute

over the past five years, a strong partnership has developed between eleos, the University of Central Florida (UCF) through the Institute of Simulation and Training (IST), UCF's School of Education, and two other faith-based nonprofits located in Orlando, Excelsis and the Christian Council on Persons with Disabilities (CCPD).  This strategic alliance is a major milestone toward accomplishing the vision of the LIFT Learning Institute.

the particular objective of this collaborative group is to build a high-tech training program to:

educate professionals regarding disability dynamics within the family unit.  it is the commitment of these strategic partners to help professionals gain a better understanding of the disability culture, with practical insight that will increase their marketability to this community, but more importantly to give them a compassionate perspective in order to become a better partner to the disability family.

educate the family regarding the disability dynamics that is and will impact their family unit.  additionally, families will be educated about available social services and how to better access and advocate for services.  It is important that the simulated training not just be informative but that it allows the family to explore the full impact of disability and capture an emotional real-life application of hope and future.

lift certification is a continuum educational process to train and equip professionals and community leaders with an advanced understanding of the disability culture and life experience.  Participants in the certification program receive input from professional and practical experts, supportive materials, and a strategic network to advance their work.  The certification of Eleos approved counselors, social workers, and church leaders provide a network of community and faith-based professionals trained to address the needs of the disability family.  Certifications are annually renewed and collaboration between professionals is encouraged and promoted.

elevating life seminars provide opportunities for individuals and families to advance their knowledge and understanding of the impact of disability upon their lives.  These interactive learning occasions supply topic-specific platforms for skilled professionals and life building events for families.  Each seminar is a venue for families to mentor families and individuals to mentor individuals.

eleos ministry events are the historical extension of eleos' visual voice into local church programs.  For over 20 years Jim & Rhonette Hukill have been active in raising the focus of the local church on the disability family.  Eleos events provide inspiration, education, and spiritual insight through a unique presentation of music, muse, and message.  In these uplifting presentations disability is not seen as confining, but is revealed to be the starting place of mobility and freedom in the human experience.
