Advancing Disability Ministry

Lift Disability Network Launches Disability Ministry Network

Thirty organizations represented by fifty attendees participated in the inaugural event of Lift Disability Network in Orland, FL November3-5. The Leadership Conference was highlighted by leaders connecting, ministries working together, and the launching of Lift Disability Network.

The board of directors for The Christian Counsel on Persons with Disabilities (CCPD) and Eleos – The Care Network, Inc. teamed together to provide a converging point for families, ministries, and professionals within the disability community. CCPD conveyed its membership to the Lift Disability Network and Eleos made a commitment of support and financial accountability.

The mandate of Lift Disability Network is to Elevate Life in the Disability Family. During the opening session, Executive Director, Jim Hukill laid the foundation for the work of Lift to be focused in three areas; connecting, educating, and communicating. Hukill says, “We must, with intent, connect in a global effort to advance disability ministry or we are stronger together than we are apart.” He added, “If families facing disability are to overcome the isolating effects of disability, then they must have a model of unity. Lift provides that model.”

The 2006 Leadership Conference ended with a prayer for the future and a challenge to help build the network. Lift 2007 will take place the first week of November in Orlando, so make plans now to connect. Together we will advance disability ministry.

splashing the color of disability! a very special arts day

on a bright sunny saturday the eleos team took the now famous “Spokes and Strokes” to brevard county.

Hosted by the very special arts council, kids with disabilities from all over the county were bused in for a day of fun with the arts.

eleos, together with STAR w/teens, (a program to help build the esteem of young teens through the medium of art) encouraged kids to try their skills with a paint brush.  many tried to paint with their feet and mouths to feel what an artist with limited mobility encounters.  some just enjoyed making masterpieces with their hands.  all in all it was a great day of education and fun!
